This month, we look at a file from the Mathcad Library.
Jim Boyd uses Mathcad to calculate the effects of chromatic dispersion (CD) and polarization mode dispersion (PMD) on a 10010110 NRZ optical signal through a single mode optical fiber.
Note: It may not be possible to do the correlation that is called for in the paper in real time at 40 GHz, where the polarization dispersion effects are most bothersome. Nonetheless, this worksheet shows how Mathcad can be used to visualize some very real problems in optical transport.
